Company Summary AdaptivEnergy is the leading innovator of miniature piezo actuators and generators that are replacing traditional motors and solenoids where small size and low power are required. Like the transistor replacing the vacuum tube, the smart materials used in AdaptivEnergy’s RLP® products are smaller and lighter than the magnets and cooper coils in electromagnetic devices. For more information on these innovative products contact our team.History PAR Technologies now AdaptivEnergy was founded in 1997 by W. Joe East in Newport News, VA. The core technology of AdaptivEnergy’s products is contained within the Ruggedized Laminated Piezo (RLP®). AdaptivEnergy, formerly PAR Technologies, was initiated as a polyimide film manufacturer for NASA Langley’s LaRC-SI film. Additional endeavors with NASA led to an introduction to stress-biased piezo actuators. Early applications work with the actuator led to a series of material and process developments which improved upon the basic technology. Extensive research and development activities have evolved the RLP® to be a stand alone, patented, robust, and highly manufacturable stress-biased actuator and energy harvesting technology. AdaptivEnergy’s RLP® has completely eliminated the historic difficulties experienced with piezo devices. It is this RLP® process that now enables a multitude of new, breakthrough actuators, components and applications that were previously hindered by the fragility of the piezo devices in tension regimes. The RLP® is manufacturable in high volume by a world class partner with world class processes. The AdaptivEnergy devices are extremely rugged and can withstand greatly increased drive voltages and the stresses induced by same. This in turn enables the piezo to reliably perform much higher levels of work.
